Emraan Hashmi counters Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism claims; says, “It is dumbfounding and not true”

Amid ongoing discussions surrounding nepotism in Bollywood, actor Emraan Hashmi recently shared his perspective on the matter. He also shed light on his experiences in the industry and addressed Kangana Ranaut’s assertions. During promotions for his latest web series Showtime, Hashmi delved into the complexities of the entertainment landscape during an interview with Dainik Bhaskar.

“There was a lot of negativity towards the industry after COVID, and even after the Sushant Singh Rajput episode, and the Boycott Bollywood trend for that matter. There was a resentment, where the entertainment industry was focused singularly,” asserted Emraan.

Discussing Ranaut’s vocal stance on nepotism, Hashmi commended her as an artist and individual, citing their collaboration in the film Gangster. He said, “I like Kangana a lot personally, as an artist, and a person. Maybe she might have had some bad experiences in the film industry. My experience with Kangana was such that I had given a hit that time, but still in Gangster I took the villain’s role where she was given center stage.”

He continued, “It was almost like a female-centric film. So, I don’t know when this perception about the industry started and people started saying that we all are drug addicts or the industry only works through nepotism. I think it is dumbfounding and not true.”

Speaking of the upcoming web show, Showtime, it is set to premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar on March 8. It features an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, and Shriya Saran, further exploring the nuances of nepotism within the entertainment world.

On the professional front, Hashmi was last seen portraying a villainous role in Tiger 3 and is set to make a cameo appearance in Sara Ali Khan’s Ae Watan Mere Watan. Additionally, he is slated to star in two Telugu projects, They Call Him OG and G2, showcasing his versatility across different regional cinemas.
