Dream Girl (2019) was one of the biggest hits of that year and also one of the most loved comic capers in recent times. As a result, the expectations are tremendous from Dream Girl 2. The trailer was released today and it has been found quite entertaining. The one-liners, written by director Raaj Shaandilyaa, raised a lot of laughs. What’s striking is how he has taken a playful dig at Bollywood films and actors. The trailer shows Abhishek Banerjee’s character named Shah Rukh! The last dialogue in the trailer is of Paresh Rawal. He says, “Jhoot kaha humse ki Sunny ki film dekhne ja rahe hai. Bees minute tak dekhta raha. Sunny Deol ki jagah Sunny Leone Gadar macha rahi thi!” The mention of ‘Gadar’ is deliberate as Sunny Deol has worked in Gadar (2001) and the upcoming film, Gadar 2. Interestingly, Gadar 2 will be released two weeks before Dream Girl 2.
But Gadar 2 is not the only movie referenced in Dream Girl 2. Writer-director Raaj Shaandilyaa revealed that he has joked about Brahmastra (2022) as well, especially on its delayed release. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, this sci-fi film took a long time to arrive in cinemas due to COVID-19 and other factors. As a result, it often got trolled.
At the trailer launch of Dream Girl 2, Raaj Shaandilyaa was asked about his favourite dialogue in the film. He revealed, “There’s a scene where a grandfather character dies in the film. The family member of the grandfather says ‘Dadaji chale gaye hai lekin mashallah poori zindagi jee ke gaye hai. Sab dekh ke gaye hai – bete ki shaadi aur baaki logon ki shaadi. Yahaan tak ki Brahmastra bhi dekh ke gaye hai!” As expected, it brought the house down at the event.
Apart from Abhishek Banerjee and Paresh Rawal, Dream Girl 2, which releases on August 25, also stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Ananya Panday, Rajpal Yadav and Annu Kapoor. It is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor.
