After carving a special place for himself at the box office, Ayushmann Khurrana’s films started going downhill at the ticket window post-pandemic. But it seems that the actor is back to his winning ways with his latest release Dream Girl 2, which hit the theatres yesterday. The film’s first day number of Rs. 10.69 is not only impressive but also the highest opening ever for any Ayushmann movie.
Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, Dream Girl 2 is the second film in the Dream Girl franchise. The film is an out-and-out comedy and it seems like the audience has accepted the humour served to them, at least till now.
In the list of Ayushmann’s highest openers, the second position is taken by Amar Kaushik’s Bala. The film, which also starred Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar, opened at a number of Rs. 10.15 crores. The next spot in the list is acquired by Dream Girl with 10.05 crores. This 2019 movie is also Ayushmann’s highest grosser till date as it earned a lifetime number of Rs. 142.26 crores. Only time will tell whether Dream Girl 2 will be able to reach anywhere closer to that figure. Interestingly, there is not much difference in the openings of Dream Girl 2, Bala and Dream Girl.
The next few films in the same list include Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Badhaai Ho and Article 15, which opened at Rs. 9.55 crores, Rs. 7.65 crores and Rs. 5.02 crores respectively.
