Box Office: Inside Out 2 shows a strong trend; all set to cross the Rs. 25 crore mark; in its second week, collects nearly double of Ishq Vishk Rebound’s first week collections

The animated flick Inside Out 2 has turned out to be a huge surprise for the industry and trade. Generally, animated films underperform in the Indian market, but this Disney Pixar production has emerged as an exception.

Inside Out 2 opened at Rs. 1.14 crores on its day of release, that is, June 14. The collections jumped to Rs. 2.04 crores on Saturday and Rs. 2.59 crores on Sunday. It collected more on Monday (Rs. 1.36 crores) than on Friday as it took advantage of the Eid holiday. The earnings then dropped to Rs. 72 lakhs on Tuesday but it showed a minor jump on Wednesday as it collected Rs. 77 lakhs. The collections were Rs. 69 lakhs on Thursday and as a result, the first week collections stood at Rs. 9.31 crores.

On the second Friday, the collections again zoomed to Rs. 93 lakhs. The film then earned Rs. 2.21 crores on Saturday and Rs. 2.59 crores on Saturday. Thus, its collections were more on the second Saturday than the first Saturday and just Rs. 2 lakhs less on the second Sunday as compared to the first Sunday.

Though the collections dropped to Rs. 65 lakhs on the second Monday, it increased to Rs. 69 lakhs on the second Tuesday and Rs. 77 lakhs on the second Wednesday. The film then went down to Rs. 43 lakhs on Thursday as it was affected by the release of Kalki 2898 AD. Nevertheless, the second week collections were an impressive Rs. 8.25 crores. This is nearly double the first week earnings of the far bigger Ishq Vishk Rebound (Rs. 4.49 crores), which was released a week after Inside Out 2.

In 14 days, Inside Out 2 managed to collect Rs. 17.56 crores. In its third weekend, too, it has managed to remain strong. Looking at its performance in the weekends and the way it’s holding steady, albeit at lower levels, on the weekdays, it won’t be a surprise if it crosses the Rs. 25 crores mark.

However, it’ll face competition the coming Friday from Despicable Me 2. It’s also an animated film, that too from a successful franchise. As a result, its target audience will now be divided.

Nevertheless, the job is done and looking at how accepted films tend to have strong legs at the box office nowadays, Inside Out 2 will continue to perform and remain in cinemas for many more weeks.

Meanwhile, Inside Out 2 became the first film after Barbie (2023) to cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office and also the biggest grosser of the year, crossing Dune: Part Two ($711 million). Pixar and Disney’s animated films have hugely underperformed at the box office post-pandemic and hence, Inside Out 2’s blockbuster success has given the studios a shot in the arm.
