Asit Modi REACTS to BJP’s campaign featuring TMKOC’s characters ahead of election

In a recent social media campaign ahead of the general elections, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) sparked controversy by featuring iconic characters from the beloved comedy series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Asit Kumarr Modi, the show’s producer, shared exclusive insights with IndiaToday regarding this issue.

The BJP’s campaign post showcased characters from the show, aiming to highlight the party’s public service efforts over the years. However, this move drew criticism from some quarters, with concerns raised about potential violations of the model code of conduct by influencing voters through the show’s characters.

Addressing these concerns, Asit Kumarr Modi clarified that the post was intended to be light-hearted and speculative. “I do not think there’s anything objectionable about it,” Modi stated. “The post is in good jest and doesn’t influence anyone to vote for the political party. The first statement itself begins with a question mark, ‘What If?’ It has been created using hypothetical situations, so I don’t see anything wrong with it,” he added.

This isn’t the first instance of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah being associated with the BJP. Previously, the show’s makers were enlisted as promoters of the Swacch Bharat Mission. Additionally, in 2019, the series featured a storyline advocating the importance of voting.

When asked about the possibility of other political parties using the show’s characters for promotion, Modi stated that their stance would depend on the nature of the content created. “Honestly, it all depends on the content they create with it. So many people on social media use our characters to create content. But, if anything is brought to our attention, we will definitely look into it,” he explained.

Asit further highlighted the team’s commitment to producing quality content for their audience, stating that while they can’t constantly monitor social media, they remain attentive to any significant issues brought to their attention.
