During the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn shared an interesting revelation about their iconic film Phool Aur Kaante (1991). The duo admitted that the film, which marked Ajay Devgn’s big Bollywood debut, was initially offered to Akshay Kumar. However, fate played a key role, leading to a turn of events that would shape both their careers.
Ajay Devgn Talks About Being “Pushed” into Phool Aur Kaante
Ajay Devgn opened up about his unexpected entry into Phool Aur Kaante, recalling how he was “technically pushed” into the film by the director, despite Akshay Kumar being the original choice. He shared, “Earlier, Akshay was supposed to do it. This is what I was told—there was an issue about releasing the film Phool Aur Kaante first, and Akshay was already committed to Saugandh.”
Ajay explained that his involvement in the film came after a shift in scheduling, with the film ultimately becoming his big break. His dual-entry stunt on a motorcycle became a defining moment in Bollywood, marking the beginning of his successful career.
Akshay Kumar Reflects on Losing Phool Aur Kaante
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar, known for his candidness, shared his perspective on the situation. “I was going to do Phool Aur Kaante,” Akshay said. “But then I came to know that Ajay is doing it. I’m happy that Ajay got that and came into the limelight.” He further emphasized, “Kyunki mujey jab uss film se nikala gaya, tab I got a film, Khiladi. So, it was a win-win situation for both of us.”

Speaking of the professional front, for Ajay Devgn, his upcoming films include Raid 2, a sequel to the 2018 film Raid, as well as De De Pyaar De 2 and Son of Sardaar 2. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, has a packed schedule with Housefull 5, Jolly LLB 3, Sky Force, and Bhooth Bangla in the pipeline.
