12th Fail Box Office: Becomes Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s highest grosser ever, surpasses Mission Kashmir lifetime

Released back in 2000, Mission Kashmir was one of the most hyped film ever. More so since it was coming in the same year as Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, the film which had made Hrithik Roshan an overnight sensation. The well-made film did average business though at the box office and accumulated Rs. 23 crores.

Circa 2023 and filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has returned with 12th Fail and the Vikrant Massey starrer has gone past the business of Mission Kashmir already. The film has netted Rs. 25.61 crores so far and is already ahead. In fact, the film had achieved this feat on Tuesday itself when it had touched Rs. 24.16 crores and now there are additional numbers been accumulated, what with Wednesday also holding strong and bringing in Rs. 1.45 crores more.

Of course, here we are talking about just the absolute numbers because if one accounts for ticket prices and inflation then more than two-decade old Mission Kashmir would have been a huge Rs. 100 Crore Club entrant already and its new number would have stood in the vicinity of Rs. 150 crores. That’s something which 12th Fail can’t even dream to achieve even after accounting for not just theatrical revenue but also OTT, satellite, music and others. That said, the film’s budget was also exponentially higher than 12th Fail.

All in all, looking at this from all perspectives, 12th Fail will be Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s biggest success ever as a director from ROI perspective and will eventually comfortably go past Rs. 35 crores mark.
